Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz (1 block) of Firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons of Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Korean gochujang (red chili paste)
  • 3 tablespoons of Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of Maple syrup
  • 2 cloves of Garlic, minced
  • 3 of Green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of Sesame seeds, toasted

  • Instructions

  • Begin by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, placing a weight on top to help draw out the liquid. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  • Once pressed, slice the tofu into even cubes, about ½ inch thick.
  • In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  • Add the tofu cubes to the skillet. Cook until they are golden and crispy on all sides, approximately 5 minutes.
  • While the tofu cooks, mix together gochujang, soy sauce, maple syrup, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
  • When the tofu is done cooking, pour the sauce over the crispy tofu and reduce the heat to low. Let it braise for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once well-braised, remove from heat. Sprinkle sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds over the dish and serve hot.
