4 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
½ cup granulated sugar
1 cup warm milk
½ cup butter, melted
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 medium-sized apples (peeled and diced)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
Warm the milk to about 110°F, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl, let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, mix activated yeast mixture with melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add flour until a dough forms, knead until smooth and elastic.
For the filling, in a medium bowl, mix diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts until evenly coated.
Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about 16×24 inches), spread softened butter, then add apple filling.
Roll the dough tightly from one long side and cut into 12 rolls.
Grease a baking dish and arrange rolls with space between them, cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Make frosting whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Drizzle frosting over warm rolls after cooling for 10 minutes.
