½ cup powdered sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups apples, peeled and sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
⅓ cup rolled oats
¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
¼ tsp salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine flour and powdered sugar, then add softened butter. Use your hands or a pastry blender to mix until crumbly.
Press the shortbread mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Ensure it’s evenly spread for a perfect bake.
In another bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the apples to release some juices.
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the shortbread base. The mixture should cover the entire surface for maximum flavor.
In a separate bowl, mix rolled oats with the remaining shortbread mixture. Sprinkle this crunchy mix over the apples.
