1 pound of lean ground protein (turkey, chicken, or tofu)
1 cup of cooked rice (brown or white)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon of ginger (grated)
3 stalks of green onions (chopped)
2 tablespoons of soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
1 tablespoon of sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully blanch the cabbage leaves for about 2 minutes until they soften. Remove them from the pot and place them in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground protein, cooked rice, garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
Take a cabbage leaf and lay it flat. Scoop a generous portion of the filling mixture onto the leaf and fold in the sides before rolling it up tightly. Repeat this process with the remaining leaves and filling.
Fit a steamer basket over a pot filled with simmering water. Arrange the cabbage rolls in the basket, cover, and steam for about 20 minutes.
