  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp work beautifully)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and nutmeg if using. Toss until the apples are well-coated.
  • Open the cinnamon roll dough and separate it into individual rolls. Flatten each roll using your fingers or a rolling pin, making a disc-like shape.
  • Take a 9-inch pie dish and layer the flattened cinnamon rolls at the bottom. Press them together to form a crust. Pour the apple mixture over the cinnamon roll crust and dot with diced butter. Sprinkle nuts if desired.
  • Flatten the remaining cinnamon rolls as before and place them over the apple filling, creating a topping.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
