Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour (substitutable with whole wheat flour)
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
1 cup warm milk (or non-dairy milk alternatives)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Icing for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly. Then, mix in melted butter and salt before gradually adding flour. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
While the dough is rising, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Optionally, add chopped nuts for an extra crunch.
After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Gently stretch the dough into a rectangular shape, approximately 1/2-inch thick. Using your fingers, create dimples all over the surface.
Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Gently press it in with your hands, ensuring that it sticks to the dough.
Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown, with an internal temperature of 190°F (88°C).
Let the focaccia cool slightly before drizzling with icing, slicing, and serving warm.
