2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup fresh cranberries, chopped
Zest of 1 orange
1/2 cup sour cream
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
2 tablespoons finely chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
Start by gathering and measuring your ingredients. Make sure your butter is cold.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until evenly distributed.
Add cubed butter to the dry ingredients and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, combine sour cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients with cranberries and orange zest. Stir until just combined.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gently knead it. Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick.
Cut the dough into wedges or use a biscuit cutter for round scones. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush tops with cream or egg wash.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, drizzled with honey or served with butter.
