Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups of Cream
  • 1 cup of Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cloves of Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of Thyme, dried or 2 teaspoons fresh
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of Butter, for greasing

  • Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or olive oil.
  • Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, overlapping them slightly.
  • In a bowl, combine the cream, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Whisk to combine.
  • Pour half of this mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded Gruyere and grated Parmesan over the cream-layered potatoes.
  • Repeat with the remaining potato slices and then the remaining cream mixture and cheese.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let the gratin rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
