2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup of unsalted butter (softened)
¾ cup of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ teaspoon of salt
As desired of food coloring (optional)
½ cup of powdered sugar (for decoration)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes. Add in the vanilla extract and salt, mixing until well combined.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to over-mix, as this may lead to tough cookies!
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling is essential as it helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
Once the dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Make sure to keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking!
