Description

Indulge in an Easy Sausage Gravy Pie with a flaky biscuit crust This irresistible delight makes for a perfect comfort food dish everyone loves

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (italian sausage can work as a substitute)
  • 2 cups milk (almond or soy milk for a dairy-free option)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 can of refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional, cheddar adds a nice flavor)

  • Instructions

  • In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until it is browned and crumbly, typically around 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease, but leave a little for flavor.
  • Add flour to the skillet with the cooked sausage and stir for about 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to the sausage gravy. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then remove from heat.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). While it heats, roll out the biscuit dough on a floured surface. Use a rolling pin to create a large circle that fits your pie pan.
  • Transfer the rolled biscuit dough to a pie pan, letting the edges hang over. Pour the sausage gravy into the biscuit crust, then sprinkle cheese over the top if desired. Fold any overhanging biscuit dough over the filling.
  • Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit crust is golden brown. Make sure to check on it periodically to avoid over-browning.
