Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour (you can substitute with whole wheat flour)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
1½ teaspoons salt
1 cup warm milk (or plant-based milk for a vegan option)
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil as a dairy-free alternative)
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, and sprinkle the yeast on top. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Once risen, punch down the dough to release any air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls.
In a small saucepan, melt the remaining butter and stir in minced garlic. Cook over low heat for about 3 minutes.
Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the tops of the rolls with the garlic butter mixture and, if desired, an egg wash. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
Once baked, brush the rolls with any remaining garlic butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley for freshness.
