Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey (or a plant-based alternative)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup black beans (optional)
  • Sour cream or guacamole for serving

  • Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add diced butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in ice water until dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground meat until browned. Drain excess fat, add taco seasoning and a bit of water. Stir in onions and black beans, cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool before adding cheese.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into circles using a 4-inch cookie cutter.
  • Place a spoonful of taco filling in the center of each circle. Fold over to create a half-moon shape, pressing to seal. Use a fork to crimp edges.
  • Arrange taco pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush tops with an egg wash.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before decorating.
  • Use black olives or edible marker pens to add spooky faces. Serve on a platter lined with festive decorations.
