Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage – Start by bringing a large pot of water to boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and gently separate the leaves. Blanch the cabbage leaves for 2 minutes until pliable, then cool them in ice water.
Step 2: Cook the Filling – In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef, cooking until brown. Incorporate the cooked rice, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool before mixing in the egg and Parmesan cheese if using.
Step 3: Assemble the Rolls – Lay a cabbage leaf flat, place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the filling at the base, and fold the sides over the filling. Roll tightly from the base to the top and set aside. Repeat until all leaves and filling are used.
