  • ¾ cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 34 tablespoons of ice water
  • 3 large oranges, juiced and zested
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

  • Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Add the cold, cubed butter, and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Shape it into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Juice and zest the oranges until you have about 1 cup of juice and 2 tablespoons of zest. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, orange juice, and zest.
  • Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface until about 1/8 inch thick. Transfer to a tart pan, trimming the edges, and prick the bottom with a fork.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line the tart shell with parchment paper and fill with pie weights. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove weights and bake for an additional 10 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Pour the orange filling into the cooled tart shell. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set but slightly jiggly in the center. Allow it to cool completely before slicing.
  • Once cooled, slice the tart into even pieces. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
