Delight in this sweet & tangy candied orange slices recipe. Perfect for desserts or snacks, these treats add zest to your culinary creations!
Ingredients
Scale
4 medium-sized oranges
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of water
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
Start by thoroughly washing the oranges to remove any dirt or pesticides. Then, slice the oranges into 1/4-inch thick rounds, ensuring each slice is uniform for even cooking. Discard the ends.
Place your orange slices in a large pot of boiling water for about 2-3 minutes. This will soften the peels and neutralize some of the bitterness. Once blanched, transfer the slices to an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
In the same pot, mix sugar and water and bring to a gentle boil. Stir until sugar fully dissolves. For an aromatic twist, add the vanilla extract and salt.
Once the syrup is ready, lower the heat and gently add the blanched orange slices. Let them simmer for about 60 minutes, flipping occasionally. You want them to absorb the syrup and become translucent.
Remove the slices from the syrup and place them on a cooling rack lined with parchment paper. Allow them to dry for at least 4 hours or until they’re slightly sticky but not wet.
Your sweet and tangy candied orange slices are now ready! You can enjoy them as a snack, in desserts, or as a beautiful garnish for cocktails and cakes. Store the leftovers in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks.
