Description

Bake delicious Valentines Day sugar cookies topped with royal icing Perfect for festivities easy to make and sure to impress your loved ones

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (softened) of unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cups (for icing) of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • Optional food coloring

  • Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined. Gradually add flour, baking powder, and salt, mixing until the dough forms. It should be soft yet not sticky.
  • Wrap your dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 1 hour. Chilling is critical; it helps the cookies hold their shape while baking.
  • Once chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes and place them on the baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • In a clean bowl, blend powdered sugar and water until smooth. If using food coloring, divide the icing into separate bowls and tint as desired. To achieve the perfect icing consistency, test it with a piping bag; it should hold its shape without being too thick.
  • Once the cookies have cooled, use a piping bag to decorate them with royal icing. Get creative with your designs, and don’t forget to sprinkle some edible glitter or hearts for an added touch of love!
